چکیده

Distiller's dried grains with solubles (DDGS) may have more value and utility if they can be separated into high protein and high fiber fractions. A variety of such separation processes have been proposed; two of the most promising processes involve three screening and three air classification unit operations. In the present study, an alternative process involving fewer unit operations is demonstrated. DDGS are subjected to a single screening, and the oversize particles are processed in a mill setup so that it narrows the particle size distribution of the oversize fraction. The milled DDGS is then processed in an air classification device known as an aspirator, which separates it into high and low terminal velocity fractions. The combination of the undersize fraction and the low terminal velocity fraction were substantially enriched in protein. The separation achieved by this process compares favorably to other reported processes while being less complex.

Fractionation of Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles (DDGS) through a Destoner

A destoner fractionation process was used to separate distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) into streams with various compositions. Results showed that destoner fractionation was somewhat efficient and effective. Runs with 8° angle and 27.5 percent air flow resulted in the highest value of protein and oil, which the light fraction had 28.15% protein, 10.50% oil, while the heavy fraction...

Productive Performance of Laying Hens Fed Different Levels of Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles with or without Certain Feed Additives

The objective of this work was to evaluate the inclusion of distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) as substitution for soybean meal in Hisex Brown laying hen diets with or without enzyme or vitamin E supplementation on productive performance. A total number of 180 Hisex Brown laying hens at 26 weeks of age were randomly divided into 15 treatment groups in a 5 × 3 factorial design experime...

Fractionation of distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) by sieving and winnowing.

Four commercial samples of distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) were sieved. All sieved fractions except for the pan fraction, constituting about 90% of original mass, were then winnowed with an air blast seed cleaner. Sieving was effective in producing fractions with varying composition. As the particle size decreased, protein and ash contents increased, and total carbohydrate (CHO) de...

The effect of process variables during drying on the physical and chemical characteristics of corn dried distillers grains with solubles (DDGS)--plant scale experiments.

Corn dried distillers grains with solubles (DDGS) are highly valued as an animal feed for its nutrient content. The amount of wet distillers grains (WDG) and condensed distillers solubles (CDS) blended together during drying affects nutritive value and physical characteristics of DDGS. Effect of changing the ratio of WDG and CDS, and recycled DDGS during drying on particle size, particle size d...

Utilization of DDGS by Cattle

Distillers grains with solubles (DDGS), the major byproduct of ethanol production, is a good protein and energy feed for cattle. The DDGS can be fed wet or dried with animal performance usually similar when fed as wet or dried products; however, some research results favored the wet products. Cattle diets can contain DDGS as replacements for portions of both concentrates and forages, although D...
